Faith at the school
Prayer, Ramadan and Eid in a school year
The faith is part of the school day. Here is what each part is like for a child.
Daily prayer
Dhuhr, the midday prayer, after lunch in the prayer room: about twenty minutes, in groups by grade, with a teacher beside each group.
Jumu'ah on Fridays
The Friday prayer is at midday, and the school day ends early so families can go home or on to their own mosque.
Ramadan
Shorter days, and lunch becomes a quiet reading hour. Older students who choose to fast spend lunch in the library. No student is asked to fast.
Eid
The school closes for Eid al-Fitr and for Eid al-Adha. The days follow the moon, so the office sends them as soon as they are known.
Who is welcome
Families from many places
Families come to Astrolabe from Somalia, Pakistan, Lebanon, Minnesota and many other places. All families who want what we teach are welcome. The school day is in English, with Arabic and Islamic studies taught as subjects, and the office can talk with you in more than one language.
